Its Ford Cosworth DFV, prepared by Nicholson-McLaren, gave around 490 bhp. Hunt won in Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada and the United States that year, and came to the last round at Fuji on 24 October three points behind Niki Lauda. In fog and running water Lauda retired after two laps, judging the conditions too dangerous. Hunt, second on the grid, needed fourth place; despite a stop for tyres he finished third as Mario Andretti won for Lotus, and took the championship by a single point.

This is the Fuji car, number 11, in white and red with Texaco on the nose and Goodyear on the front and rear wings, standing on treaded wet-weather tyres. James Hunt's name and a Union flag sit beside the cockpit. Behind the white airbox the DFV shows its Ford cam covers, plug leads and a fuel line in clear tubing, and the cockpit holds a black seat, a blue harness and a red extinguisher. Amalgam's listing says paint codes and material specifications came from McLaren Racing and that the model is just over 22 cm long. It sits on a black gloss plinth whose steel plaque reads Team McLaren M23D and #11 James Hunt. Amalgam Collection builds it at 1:18.

https://www.automotivehouse.com/products/mclaren-m23d-japanese-grand-prix-1976-11-amalgam-collection-1-18
