ferrari-fiat-642-rn2-bartoletti-transporter-red-cmc-1-18
Ferrari Fiat 642 RN2 Bartoletti Transporter, Red

In the late 1950s Scuderia Ferrari took its cars to the circuits in a transporter built by Carrozzeria Bartoletti of Forlì on a Fiat 642 RN2 bus chassis. Two racing cars rode on its upper deck and a third below, and the body housed workshop lockers and space for the crew. Maserati ran an essentially identical vehicle in its own colours. Ferrari used its Bartoletti from 1957 until 1965, then for delivering road cars, after which it fell a long way: a farmer cut it down into a flatbed for carrying hay. Rediscovered in the 1990s, it was restored by Bartoletti itself.

CMC's model is in Ferrari red, with the 'Ferrari automobili' script and prancing horse on its flanks, Modena lettering, Magneti Marelli, Dunlop, Shell and Ferodo decals, and Modena plates reading 42629 MO. The car hoist runs on metal rails, the side ramps stow away and the tailgate drops; the side lockers open on wood-finished shelving, a drawer holds six wheel chocks, and the cab doors open on red leather seats and a full dashboard. Pirelli Cinturato tyres sit on Trilex rims, and the spare comes out of its own hatch. It will carry up to three 1:18 racing cars, sold separately. CMC builds it at 1:18 as an all-metal precision model of 2,877 parts, weighing about 4.5 kg.
