The BMW 328 wore round headlamps, and at first glance the 2006 concept appears to do the same, but its circles are built from LEDs and attached as flat elements rather than set into the bodywork, so the lines of the bonnet and wings run down to the front apron uninterrupted. That leaves the tall, narrow BMW kidney grille to dominate the front on its own, with the bonnet's central ridge converging on it like a prow. BMW built the concept as a one-off on the running gear of the Z4 M Coupé, to honour the 328 Touring Coupé that won the 1940 Mille Miglia at an average speed no winner of the race has bettered.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFew finishes show off those surfaces like this one. The body is finished in a mirror gold chrome that throws back every reflection, turning the grille, the frosted round lamps and the red tow eye into sharp accents. The cabin is light grey, with ribbed seats, black harness straps and a silver dashboard and console visible through the split windscreen, and the gills behind the front wheels carry pale inserts. A red lamp strip crosses the tail on the diagonal.
